En 1988, le quotidien Libération faisait le point sur les disques qui avaient alors marqué l’histoire du Rock : 1968-1988, l’album de nos 20 ans. 1988, pour le passage de témoin entre le vinyle et le CD, 1968 pour l’avènement du concept “album” au profit du single (discutable au regard des disques sortis durant les 3 années auparavant).
Ce hors série est un véritable essai de discothèque idéale, même si la période exclut le Sgt Pepper’s des Beatles, ou le Nevermind de Nirvana. Néanmoins, la tentative de classement reste on en peut plus crédible. Le quotidien avait alors réuni un parterre de connaisseurs au dessus de toute légitimité : Philippe Manoeuvre, Bayon, Marie-France Brière, Patrice Blanc-Francard, Philippe Labro, Yves Bigot, Michel Drucker, José Artur, Serge Loupien, Serge July, Pierre Lescure, Claude Villers, Philippe Paringaux, Bernard Lenoir, François Jouffa, et plusieurs autres encore…
